Selling Source-code...

Does anyone have any experience with selling reusable source-code?

We've started Binpress.com a while back, a site that lets programmers publish code bits and sell them online to other programmers, companies, etc. We're seeing a lot of discussions on the topic, and I though this could be great place to get some feedback as there are a lot of business-minded developers here.

Would love it if you check us out and let us know what you think.

I think your site is nice and it could be great for people who like to develop software or script. Does buying source code in your website also include PLR rights?

Some components have reselling licenses, it's up to the seller to decide wether to include it or not, and what to charge for it.

We noticed people are willing to pay much more for reselling rights, a component that costs about $25 normally have generated quite a few sales at $300 for reselling rights... Pretty cool.

Some components are free btw, and we also have an affiliate program with cool features (widgets, data feeds, etc).

    Interesting site
I wonder, do you get much business? there is so much free available information around.
Do you also have upsell options so the code provider can increase business by modifying the product, helping include/support the product etc?

@SiJz we do get much business, to say the least. We're just starting out so there's still room for growth, but the bigger our inventory, the more we sell. Surprisingly, people tend to buy even stuff that's available for free. Either cause they trust us when it comes to quality, because some developers on Binpress offer support, or sometimes people just don't have time to go through all the rubbish free code out there and ratehr fork out $10-100 to find a quick solution.

Up-selling is possible to some extent, and we're working on more features later. Right now the popular way to charge for support, is to offer two packages of your code: with and without support, with different prices.

Cool, thanks for the reply Nitrox.

I'm not surprised with your reply really, I work mostly with embedded systems, where, like you say, people will pay for stuff that you can find for free, mostly because they expect it to be better value/quality and to have some level of support as it's a paid product.

I think I may join and try to sell some of my stuff - thanks

yes your right some website give permission but for me its better to develop your own source code not just you download it, modify and sell and claim as yours. :)
