If i created a unique script for a website and then sold if for $100 can i make good money? I mean i see like myspace clones, image hosting site scripts, youtube clones being sold.

    phpfox - $300
    rayzz script - $425
    clip-share- $199

These are just some but its seems like alot of people are buying them. phpfox probably sold way over 1000 copies by now.

What do you think? i mean i know i would have to find something that is very popular. I think most popular scripts right now are probably youtube clones, myspace clones, image hosting sites, proxy sites, etc.

You can make alot of money, and you can also do things like MySpace clones, you just have to make sure that your version has more features and is therefore better than all of your competitors.

Also if you sell yours for less you will normally sell alot more meaning that in the long run you will make even more money.

I agree, you can make a lot of money, but you should definitely do some research.

It would probably be hard to sell something like a YouTube clone, because there are already others out there.

I suggest that you ask around, and find out what people really need and hopefully it's a script not yet created :)

For instance, I wanted a script for my blog that would show YouTube videos based on the keywords that I used inside the script. It would always be updated (based on the YouTube database).

I found a script like that, but I couldn't use it because of some security issue that my host wouldn't allow.

I think phpfox is a little different from those other clone script businesses. Fox is very serious about their projects, keeps updating the software, and has a strong community where members make and sell various addons. If you can get that kind fo support from your users, I think you have a great shot at making a lot of money.

Depends what script you develop. Are you going to develop it yourself? There are several significant hurdles to getting running. You need extensive research into what people want, how much it will cost, then months of development, testing testing testing, demo-ing to show it works, e-commerce solution (instant download), marketing, advertising, Support and future updates to keep up with the changes. It can work well for you if you have the time and investment. But again, it all depends on the variables above and how well they are achieved.

Please do PM me for more info or if you're interested in some kind of partnership or link-up as I have a successful and established business licensing a single script, but it took a year or two to really take off due to some lack of initial commitment and relative inexperience. So let me know :)
