I have never sold a script before and had a few questions for those that have. I have built a custom Joomla component. It's actually a completely integrated, native forum component for Joomla which uses alot of awesome Ajax. Example, profile editing is like Vbulletin, with inline field editing and the profile comments. So far, it eats other similar components up in features and extendability. Adding on to the forum is as easy as building a component for Joomla. Not to mention, it is extremely lightweight while providing many of the awesome features big commercial boards offer (stand alone, I believe this thing could stand against some of the bigger boards such as IPB or VB). What I am not sure of is how well scripts usually sell? I also have converters for the board to convert from VB, IPB, and other popular free boards (PHPBB, SMF, MyBB, etc). How do you find interested buyers for scripts like this and how do you go about pricing these things? Sorry, again, never sold any of my scripts before.
Well, the thing about selling this is, you have to point out your good points. You need someone to actually help you out on doing some product review on your website. Open up to people to get their feedbacks. Try posting up a new thread here and show us some demos so we could also help you out to give you some ideas. The thing with scripts is, that if it really helps Internet Marketers or people who are fond of using Joomla, then there might be a market for it. What is most important is, how can your script help them, and improve their site? How easy is it to use the script? I mean, it might be easy to use in your eyes, but if the majority says its not user friendly, then you will have to improve on it. Drop us a note, once you have a demo out. I think that would help you out alot.
I am not really know how to sell scripts...but I have spent much time studying joomla and writing components/modules for it...While I was surfing joomla official site for components I saw that there was free components and commercial. Maybe you should write a good description about your component, take some screenshoots and post it to joomla official site? ... I also suggest that you create a mini site about your component and host it on some free hosting. And please write a manual for your component .
As uzi said add your script to the add-ons section of joomla's site. That is the first place that I go to find add ons for my joomla sites. This will be the easiest way to sell your script. You may want to offer it for free to start out just so that you can get some people using it. Then when you have some examples of how other people have integrated the script into their site it will help you sell to other people who may be interested.
You can try to sell it at DP under content section or create a website to sell this script About the pricing,its depend on you but i would said it deem reasonable around $300++
i guess that you have announced your script on official joomla site? next step should be hotscripts.com and scripts.com for example...
