I'm in the process of coding a custom script that I was planning on selling and making money from that. However that would need me to spend time on marketing, and continue to provide support for it long-term. I've just been made aware that that won't be possible so I'm wondering if it's sensible to sell the rights to the script to someone else so that they can sell the copies and profit from it. For instance, if I were to start up and sell 10 copies at $100 each in the first month, how much could I reasonably expect to get for selling the rights/ownership of the script? What I really am trying to work out is if it'd be worth it or should I give up now?
Sell it for a hefty penny, or get some people interested in it, and start a community around it. Pay the people that work on the script ( or get volunteers) and then you can just own everything. Do something like phpBB. Yes, no?
