Selling pictures (how, where etc.)

    Hi,

I'm interested in selling pictures. I'm a pretty good photographer and I believe some of my readers will be interested.

I looked into stock photography but I'm not convinced... seems like the earning is really low and for most of the websites I checked, I had to pay for image storage first.

    So:

    1) Do you know any serious website that could be a middleman between photographers and buyers?

    2) Do you think it would be worth to sell the pictures directly on my blog? If yes, is there an application/ plugin for that?

I realize my questions are broad but I'm really hoping for suggestions and ideas!

If you wish to check out some of my pictures, please see my blog in my signature below.

    Thank you!

perhaps license a content management system and then sell direct. shutterstock and a lot of the image warehouses are saturated-- i agree with you on that.

    Hmm.
I don't know of any real websites that offer services like this, but if you're interested in selling them directly on your site I'm positive a simple PHP based ecommerce script could be modified to do exactly what you're looking for.

You could try deviantart if you think you can sell prints of your photos - it's got one of those cafepress type schemes whereby they print up and you get an amount for every print sold - but it specialises in art and photography prints. Might be worth trying just to see if there's any interest without going to the expense of getting prints made up yourself.

You could try creating your own website and selling them there. Would have to advertise to get hits though.

Yes you can buy using zen-cart and putting your pic to sell.

How about setting up your own website and directly selling your products and services to your clients. in this way you can have all the money you generated.

    Consider:
    1) Creating your own website to sell them (remember to watermark samples)
    2) Advertising your services on forums such as digitalpoint ^^

The main answer you are currently being given, is creating your own e-commerce solution, however you then still have to consider that you are competing with a lot of other freelance photographers, so you'll still need to condiser another method just to let people know you exist, and then have the website to drum up repeat sales etc

    Yes, that's a good site.
I believe a member here earns well on that site monthly
