    Hello,

I have written a php script that uses shellexec to call iptables. I want to sell the script, but because of the use of iptables will the GPL for it be a problem?

I don't think you have a problem there at all....unless I'm missing something iptables is part of the Linux kernel.

Yes it is. Actually I use many linux utilities in the php code, grep, at, echo, and others. Since linux is distributed under the GPL will this be a problem?

If your not including iptables in some sort of bundle then no, not a problem

I'd ask a lawyer or do some heavy-duty research first.

Back in my Army days, we used to have something called "Barracks Lawyers" who were basically well-intentioned people who gave advice on a variety of topics -- but the accuracy of their advice was questionable at best. While it was a great way to get a general feel for a topic, it was always best to go to the legal office about specific questions.

Same things goes in a forum. While you can get a general feel for the group consensus on a legal topic, the only real way to go is to talk to a lawyer who can provide specific insights on your particular situation.

    Best wishes,
    Tom
