Hello, I am hoping to launch my e-commerce website but I have a very important question regarding inventory/stock. I hope to sell decoration items that are unique, in other words, it will be hard to make 2 or more items that are the same. What this means is, once a customer purchases an item, it will no longer be available for sale (since they are hand-made). How should I approach this challenge? Is a flash-sale e-commerce website the solution? Any recommendations as to what would be the most efficient method to sell these unique items? Thanks is Advance. Pedro
Pedro, just create the item, photograph it, throw it onto your store & delete that product after it's sold. Use a simple ecommerce platform like BigCommerce so it's super easy to create, edit & delete products.
You can apply Magento which can help you to create/add more products. Also, check if this help you out. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2573268
I agree with the other posters, make sure your site is set up to show big detailed pictures and as each item sells delete it and add whatever else you have made.
Do not delete it. Create a sold category get the products image that has been sold and put sold across image and in the discript right this item has been sold please feel free to look at our other products. You delete a sold item your deleting key words and if that customer came from google or other sites you may get more from them.Good luck
As Ajoke suggested to not delete the product from your catalog once it's sold. Disable the product once its sold so that it stays archived in your catalog for SEO reasons. You'll also be able to show other potential customers your creativity or talent. If you don't want to be bothered with setting up an ecommerce site and already have a Tumblr or Wordpress site you can use Shoplocket to embed your product into your website.
Thanks for all the help. Is anyone familiar with the Woot.com business model? Since I am selling one-of-a-kind products, perhaps the approach to sell one product a day might cause a buzz around my website/products. Still thinking what is the best solution so that my website obtains initial traction. Any thoughts?
Why don't you just sign up and sell your unique handmade items on Etsy first? You could build your inventory there for free, sell it (with small seller fees), then as you (or if you) gain popularity on Etsy, you could then launch your own eCommerce website and could then direct your customers to your website to purchase items. Then you could feature and display your products how you want. Etsy already gets a lot of traffic. You could make a name for yourself there, then take your customers straight to your site.
