i found a blog, with hundreds of enraged sellers of amazon, losing $1000s of dollars each?! one guy lost $20,000 this makes me weary...

could someone please tell me if this is true?

I have been an Amazon Storefront Merchant for over a year now. They invited me to become a merchant for them due to my Powerseller status on eBay (I believe.) I have had nothing but good experiences with Amazon (I sell ethernet cables, by the way.) They do what they say they are going to do, send me my money when they are supposed to, etc. And, most important to me, their buyers seem to be much smarter and more reasonable than what I am faced with on eBay every day, which are basically a significant percentage of idiots and and a smaller percentage of scammers.

I almost did it, but backed out. There's all kinds of stuff they need (at least a few years ago this is how it was). They require you to ship them a bunch of your stuff, they hold onto it for a while, etc., etc. I just think it is so much easier just to do it yourself.

To get a bar code for your book, it's not that hard. Costs around $200 though.

I have no idea what Amazon is requiring now, but I never had to send in any samples. Of course, they invited me to start selling for them, so that may be the difference.

if you want to sell in the "used/new" section it's fairly easy and doesn't cost a whole lot. But some items are being sold at 1 cent...and that's ridiculous if you ask me.

My commission with amazon is 4%, there very picky about were your traffic comes from. if you have a US store you better send US traffic or kiss those commissions goodbye. You don't have to worry about them paying because there very good that way. Just have a lot of rules that seem designed to rip you off for commission. I thought ClickBank was bad.

Just an FYI, I find Amazon to be MUCH more profitable than eBay. But, I am selling very low cost ethernet cables on both and that may be the reason why. Ebay has made a point of trying to lose its low cost item sellers.

i do agree, amazon would be much more profitable, but ebay is much easier for the seller. and i dont see why ebay wants to lose its low cost sellers, they need to list thousands to make a decent profit, in turn ALOT of moeny for ebay, but i suppose higher priced auctions are better quality. maybe in the next few months i might go into amazon, depends on my ebay success

Let us know how it goes for you. You and I sell complementary products, so I will be interested to see how it works out for you. I, for one, would be very leery about selling high-priced electronics on eBay. Way too many scammers for my risk profile. Even at a couple of bucks for a cable, I get scammed by eBay buyers once in a while.
