I was planning to sell graphic templates such as banners, logos etc but I was thinking if it's legal to include the fonts in the package. I bought the fonts at myfonts.com.
Wow . . . this is a tough one, and I've spent a bit of time trying to wrap my head around it. Basically, you can't distribute the font without a license/permission. However, you can embed the PC TrueType format fonts within your document for viewing, editing, and printing. (as far as I can determine - I checked here: http://www.fontshop.com/support/licenses/bitstream/) If I were you, I'd check with MyFonts here: Contact us to be safe. Good luck.
Great reply MeMyselfAndI, I agree with you. I was just getting ready to start some research to make sure I was correct with my thoughts, when I decided to read your response lol.
Thanks, but it was a concern I had as well. So, thought I'd better hop on it as it'd been unexpectedly brought to mind. So, I now have a new use for forums - reminder-ofers of future concerns presented presently (or somesuch).
I agree since having font in the package in the way that your customer can re-use it should violate the right of the font owner(Bistream in this case). But if embedded in the document, the re-use of font by your customer is not possible hence not violate Bistream. Other thing is, I think you can charge more for font if the customer want to reuse the font-- and use that money to pay myfonts.com
Hi thanks for the response! Really helpful. About the embedding PC TruType format, that's only applicable if you are offering services? What I'm offering is a product. I also have bought fonts from Bitstream and guess what: Damn.
Ok as long as I don't let my customers re-use the font, I won't get sued for it. I also found out that I must also have permission to embed the fonts. This is so much work than I thought it would be coming up with this kind of product.
