Selling a website or blog?

    Hi,

I been trying to figure out the process of selling a website or blog and I can't seem to put it together...

If I have a buyer for my site, what are the steps to properly transfer the site over to them?

I would greatly appreciate if someone could fill me in on the process.

    Thanks

You would unlock your domain and have the buyer request to transfer the domain....you would also contact the host and explain...they will move the hosting account to the new buyer...

Thats the bulk of it :)

so I don't have to zip up files and transfer it over...just contact my hosting to transfer everything from my site over to his hosting?

    sorry never done this before...

Honestly dude - I buy/sell/trade sites and blogs on a regular basis, and each transfer, I just hire someone to do it for me. I know that sounds lazy, but, there are plenty of people here on DP alone that would do a full transfer for $5 or so.

And for the person above that suggested contacting your hosting...forget about it, it's not even close to reality. Chances are slim that your buyer will have the same hosting...so you need someone who can properly transfer all the files from your hosting account to the new one, and then you can push the domain yourself.

    Hope that helps:)

Godaddy makes it easy for example to push a domain. This is the process of getting the buyers godaddy account & email then they can accept the domain. As for the site , shamus has explained it there...

Is pushing an account in godaddy free, or does it take some cost.

Pushing a domain name within godaddy is free. The buyer can get a free godaddy account if they don't yet have one.

Especially for dealing payment online for selling site use Escrow service, it would be good for both buyer and seller.

I can do this if you really want. All you have to do is transfer all the files to their host (using FTP), and make a backup of the database (if there is one) and import it to the new host. Also, you have to change the DNS servers to their new host. I can help you out with this if you need help.

I find Escrow only useful for larger purchases.
