Sell your directory differently after the last Google adjustments...

Just received a special deal from Mike and Marc of a well known directory that used to be PR6 and fell back to PR3. It's just $25 for a submission at a PR6 directory, lifetime fee. A few months ago I would not have doubted but now that so many directories been punished by Google, I am reluctant. Like me, there must be 1000's of webmasters. Nowadays, we all want to know that these 25 bucks are well invested and that directory won't fall back to PR3 in the next update. Of course, no-one can assure.

If you wish to market your directory better and keep your volume, ask yourself what webmasters want from directories. Okay, I haven't done any research on this, but my common sense says that:
    - Most webmasters of them are willing to pay for good PR juice
    - They prefer lifetime fees
    - They want to know their money is well invested.

So what could be a possible solution that will convince webmasters to submit and pay, without going cheap?
In my opinion, the best solution would be to spread the submission fee over a certain number of years. Allow them to pay your fee of, for example, $40 in 5 years ($8 per year). If the pagerank of the directory stays the same, the link-owner will be happy to pay the amount knowing that after 5 year the link is fully paid and keep the PR juice going. At the same time, he's covered when the directory loses it's PR and can stop paying at any time. Of course, the directory owner has the right to eliminate the link.

    Any comments?

When you take into account that 9 out of 10 small businesses fail within the first year you might find collecting payments a bit difficult.

well those 2 things do not go together, I will be running a directory as a business not a hobby, my mandate will be to bring people to your internet door, now to do that and ensure your money is well invested / you get results it costs money.

People who charge a once only fee just by nature will not have the funds to invest in a manner to promote your business over the long term.

what your your saying is you want to buy one ad in the paper and have it return customers forever, i can not achieve that on a one time payment and is poor business practice for me, my directory and you as the customer goes.

the idea of spreading the fee over 5 years ? defeats the above, plus $8 a year is chicken feed, business spends thousands on advertising each year, a normal ad for one week as a line ad is $40 *, so i doubt a yearly fee is out of the question.

No problem to agree with the above statements.

But webmasters ( specially DXP members) should also be wise enough to check the indexing of the category page they want to submit to. It does not matter abt. the PR of the directory , also its not a matter of concern if the directory is penalized or not-- what matters is the frequency of indexing of the said site and indexed page of the category the webmaster is willing to submit from pure SEO view-point.:)

well i don't buy links because i think i can invest my money better than paying for PR links. i don't see how high PR websites get you visitors. i don't really think it helps with SERPs to much so better work on unique content that will attract natural links.

Imo since selling links is more risky now and the one that suffers from selling links are the owners of the directories it should cost more :D

Better not to answer such users as it's very possible it's another provocation here.
