I just wrote an article about a few minutes ago regarding the new PR update. Some of your sites might have been affected negatively, some positively. If you're one of those people that got affected negatively and want to redeem your PR or get it higher, check out my short article about it. You can still have the chance to sell text links without getting penalized by Google. http://slyvisions.com/files/how-to-sell-text-links-without-getting-penalized-by-google.php So what do you guys think?
Not the best idea. If i was to change my links and add nofollow to them my buyers would most definitely request a refund. Having nofollow makes link buying pointless.
Most advertisers pay for traffic, not for a link that would help their PR. Anyway, after all this PR commotion, it's pretty much useless now. Also, you can always let your advertisers know that you are setting up a 'nofollow' for their links. They can either agree or disagree. You lose more advertisers anyway if your PR is low.
PR juice is the main idea that makes people pay for text links, not traffic. You can't really sell nofollow links. Being selective and not linking to bad neighbours is what needs to be done, linking to such sites is what might give you trouble.
I would have to disagree with this statement. Most people buy links for PR or SEO purposes. Those who want traffic can find much more suitable methods.
That is true. But after the new Google policies about PR and all that, it's pretty much pointless. Again, let me just restate that what I am trying to say are for those who really care about their PR. If you don't it to decrease, don't sell text links or add the 'nofollow'. If you don't care about PR, go ahead and do whatever you want with them.
Yes, most text link sales are for PR juice. I think its rather dumb in my opinion, you could spend that money advertising your site through ad networks and probably gain some decent traffic and guess what.. link backs! I know some people who use adbrite cpm, only pay around $150.00 month and can get over 75,000 visitors that month from those ad units. I think if someone just strictly wants traffic they should have no problem with the ref="nofollow" tag.
Exactly. That's why I'm saying that buying links just to increase PR juice is pointless. Google has made a new policy about it, and there's nothing we can do. Whether we sell text links or BUY text links, we are still considered to be breaking those guidelines.
You seem to be making a lot of conclusions based on the usual net babble. The only thing we actually know is there has been a lot of high PR sites lost rank. Everything else is speculation and conjecture. Even if this is true the SERPs are what matters and they seem relatively unaffected.
people dont only buy a text link for traffic or pr...but for SERP as well, if you're buying a link w anchor text for "cell phones" and that website is a high PR cellphone related site, this will count towards that phrase for your site in the google serps
