Sell Facebook fan page to company?

So last year I created a fan page for a locally-brewed beer that has a bit of a cult following. It gained about 8,000 fans last year and is now up to over 18,000 fans and adding over 1,000 new fans per day lately.

As many of you may know, Facebook is now making page owners authenticate their pages with a deadline of just a couple weeks. I do not work for or have any affiliation with the brewery (I just like the beer) so I'm not even going to try to authenticate it. The page gets lots of interaction from its fans and I really think it will continue to grow exponentially. If I worked for the brewery I'd see it as a great marketing tool.

So my question is, do you think I should tell the brewery about the page and offer to sell control of it to them for a price? Otherwise, the fan page will just die and everybody loses. What would you do?

Send them a letter or email and ask? It can't hurt, if its going to be delted shortly soon.

I think you should ask fans and try to sell the page.

But you don't and you can't assume how they will view it. Some companies get pretty upset (after spending years and tons of money to brand their product) at others who misrepresent themselves, or ride the coat tails of their hard work.

It depends. If it is clearly a Fan page and you are not representing yourself as part of the company it's worth a shot, however, if you have misrepresented yourself, they don't need to pay you anything, Facebook will just give it to them, or deactivate the account.

No...everyone doesn't loose..only you do. I'm pretty sure the beer company goes on and they can just build their own Official fan page in no time.

Not aware of them requiring this, It is in fact a fan page which the owner should be a fan of......In order to authenticate I would say make a website also, based around it that should be suffcient
