Self taught programmer saying hello

Hello,

I am a self taught programmer (php primarily) and Loony Linux advocate.

I have been using Linux for about 12 years or so now (when was MKLinux DR3 released ??) and have been programming php for almost as long, first started about 3 or 4 months before php 4 went stable.

My database of choice is PostgreSQL although I got my start in web programming with MySQL and I am seriously considering looking into some of the NoSQL solutions for cases where complex queries involving unions and joins etc. is not really needed.

I have a love for object oriented web programming, particular DOM related. Big fan of DOMDocument, treating web pages as objects to be played with server side is IMHO the right way to generate content.

I have been working on my own CMS. It is not currently anywhere near as capable as say, Drupal or even Wordpress, but I believe the philosophy behind my design structure better and is inherently more secure. But I'm not trying to take over the world or get people to switch, use what you like and are happy with, and when you are no longer happy with it, then switch to something else.

I'm a self taught programmer, and that has some drawbacks. Part of my intent in registering here is to try and glean from those who have formal training and/or experience I can draw upon as I continue development of my product and come into issues I haven't even thought of yet.

I'm also interested in learning more about Ajax/jQuery, I'm a little behind the times on modern JS toolkits. Never did really like JS but it sure is used a lot.

Oh, I'm also a standards freak. They exist for a reason, and one better have a damn good reason for breaking them if they are to be broken.
