    Hi all,

I was wondering if some one could clarify for me what the rules are on this, I pm'ed a mod/admin type person asking about it a couple months ago and didn't get a reply.

    Example situation:

Forumgoer posts a thread looking for a payment processor and maybe lists a few feature they need

I reply that I'm a payment processor and can provide the features their looking for.

Is this acceptable? It doesn't seem unreasonable to me but I know some webmaster forums have strict rules about this stuff. I won't be making spam threads or anything, just when I see some one in the e-commerce forum looking for a service, if I can provide said service, I'd like to be able to respond.

    Thanks all!

Yes, you can reply to it saying you do that, but you cant go about saying that in every thread asking about it.

That sounds fair enough, I probably wouldn't post in business related threads more than a few times a week, general discussion is much more entertaining :p

Usually they just want ideas. I am sure if they wanted offers, they would post in BST no?

Yes, BST is where people post looking for offers, so if its in Payment Processing forum, and they are saying:

    You cant say:

    As that is spam.

I understand that, its thread poaching, what I mean are threads more along the lines of "looking for a paypal alternative" like there currently is at the top of the payment processing board. A couple dozen people respond recommending processors, I just wasn't sure if I could recommend my own.

Good answers provided above and I'll quote the following from the FAQ/Rules/Posting Guidlines:

"It's okay to promote your own things, but wait until you have contributed something useful (posts-wise) to the forum."

Basically make sure all your posts are not self promotion.
