Selecting niche domain names...

I'm rather new purchasing domains and I have a couple questions.

I've noticed a lot of people referring to the SEO keyword suggestion tool... What's a general guideline for the minimum number of searches per month necessary for a good domain name?

I found a two-word keyword that I'm interested in pursuing. The keyword's associated .com is suprisingly not taken.. I plugged the keyword into the SEO tool and it only gets searched for 7,000 times per month between USA and France (it's a French topic). Is this enough searches to potentially make the domain profitable?

And, if it is a .com, would people in France be less likely to visit it? I mean, does google.fr give preference to .fr websites over .coms?

Also, is there any point in registering .infos except for domain parking?

    Thanks

After doing that just search for the same keyword in Google.com and checkout this part : Results 1 - 10 of about 3,380,000 for . (0.11 seconds)

if the number is high then it means there is a very High Competition for that Keyword and probably difficult to get on 1st Page

Are you targeting only on France Traffic ?? is the Site in French or something ??
if u r not then prbably go for .com

The .fr domain is already taken, but the .com isn't. I'd probably target US and people in France who can read english :)

    When I search in quotes, I get: Results 1 - 10 of about 36,900 for ...
    and without quotes, Results 1 - 10 of about 1,300,000 for ...

with a .com, wouldn't I expect quite a bit of type in traffic?

    another question...

are there any types of .info domains worth registering and parking that would receive enough type-in traffic to pay for themselves?

That really depends on whether you are going for generic or branded name, ideally the two-word or three-word and joied with another words for search strings is a more realistic like dog food, dog breed etc.. Also it depends on the niche you are targeting.
