SEF - Godaddy - Joomla

Has anyone been able to get SEF with Joomla to work on godaddy hosting?

Everytime I switch it to SEF and change htaccess.txt to .htaccess I just get 404 not found on all the links! I've even done SEF-v1.1 corhack and it doesnt work. Its a PHP/apache server and it supports mod_rewrite. Kinda stupid because without it I cant get any of the contact forms to work. Sucks cuz I am my site is taking off and Im getting registered users now, but they have no way of contacting me!

dnt take it wrong , but godaddy hosting is the worst hosting providers around .. They are good concerning domains but not with hosting . They are still new in this field .

Just had the same problem at godaddy, i emailed the support and they solved in about 15 minutes, the links started to work instead of 404

 

I found the explanation : goddady .htacces is cached and reloaded at regular intervals, around an hour. after the server picks your new .htaccess file everything should be ok

that's what happened to me.

 

Why do they need to cache it

 

When godaddy installs Joomla as a value added application it installs it in a joomla directory under the root. How do you get it installed in the root directory? I haven't made it to the htaccess issue yet?

 

Yet another reason of why Go Daddy is so lame!

They're just trying to cut down on server usage! LAME!

Thanks. I'm having the same issue with shared hosting on Godaddy. Did you need to change anything in the .htaccess or did it just start working in about an hour? I've never waited that long thinking they needed to reload.

 

GoDaddy is not yet known to be a good webhost, but a domain registrar? yes, Godaddy is the best in town.

 

If you want SEF to work on Godaddy... Use this as your .htaccess, I've attached the file. When you upload it to your server rename it from "htaccess.txt" to ".htaccess" I know it looks like a broken file, but trust me, it works.

I am sick of godaddy - i dont understand why I always end up with godaddy

There control panels are slow - .htaccess does not load

other option would be to use 404sef and use the index.php option for sef - that way you avoid htaccess completely.

404sef is in my opinion the best sef component for Joomla out there, I should know, I've tried most of them in the past.

 

As a noob who believes in passing on little success formulas, here's how it worked for me:

I used the htaccess.txt file posted above (thanks!), renamed to .htaccesss as instructed. I set my joomla settings to SEF ON.

(Waited an hour, no luck)

I had to uncomment (remove the #) the line : rewritebase /

(Waited another hour, still no luck)

Set Apache Mod Rewrite ON in Joomla Admin

Works!

godaddy is good (and effective) cause they're very convenient .. as someone already mentioned, they're the domain leader - how easy is it to just buy a new domain name and setup an account real quick - and then we get to use their self installers for joomla and seriously - in a matter of 7 - 9 minutes, you can have a completely working and fully functional web site - WITH CONTENT (if you have the QS) - WITH email...

is there better? .. of course
... but hard to beat that
