    Hello everyone -

I wonder if anyone will provide some opinions for the following:

I have an opportunity to start up a site in the fairly lucrative (but highly competitive) poker category. Now, I understand that there are a lot of super-pro marketers in this space but nothing in this world is easy so I am considering having a go at it.

I feel that I can compete based on the following:

    - (most important) I have a VERY good content source - a professional poker player + professional writer who will commit to daily posts with useful content. The content will have a consistent editorial tone, by relevant, engaging and compelling.

    - I have an excellent domain name available to use on this project.

    - Because I run offshore teams, I can get any special functionality built into the site quickly and inexpensively. This has been an advantage to me in the past, as I can customize scripts and adapt to the audience to improve traffic/content.

I am interested in this is a long-term project, hoping to build an audience over a long period and monetize the traffic slowly over time. No get-rich-quick aspirations, just the hope to make a solid, profitable site by creating GREAT content with a nice design and good SEO.

I have heard a few comments like 'the poker space is too cluttered and you can't make any $', but I'm not sure if it's true. Unlike the pharma/legal spaces, blogs can be very personal and I have terrific confidence in this writer.

I'm not expecting to make 10k/month in 3 months, but if we work on it for a year could we be doing well? Ok, let me have it!!!

    thanks :D

Have a go at it! Nothing better then testing it out for a year and see how it goes. If anything, you can sell the blog after some time and turn a profit. But considering you have a professional player (who hopefully has connections with other pro's and has an inside track to the poker world) your blog could turn into a central hub for noobie's, intermediate and advanced players.

Check out wordpress - most hosting companies will automatically install it for you and its easy to play around and alter content. It will manage all your files - SEO them (mod_rewrite, RSS, pinging et al..) - and pretty much everyone and their mother is using it so bugs are not an issue.

Thanks for these opinions. My mother isn't using Wordpress but I'm familiar with it :D

I am doing research on the poker cateogry today and I have found a few VERY strong players in that space, and hundreds of dabblers. I hope we can rise to the top over time.
