Seeking information on Marketing without a 'real' website

    Hi all,

I have recently been intrigued by a company who offer what I consider a very attractive offer to its customers, not selling them anything in particular but offering savings and discounts on what they already use.

They also offer an executive pack which will cost me £200 (approx. $400). This pack will allow me to become a distributor of their services and basically earn commission for every customer I send their way.

There are some factors I would like your help with, as being a student - £200 is a hefty sum for me to invest if i'm not totally sure on my intended approach to it. As with other affiliate related companies, I will be given an ID which I can attach to the URL to track my referrals. However, I am not allowed a website which offers any information etc on the company as their policy forbids this without having it reviewed by their team and this costs £500 per website. The company are a PLC, so I am not at all concerned about their credibility.

I know that we are allowed to use a domain of our own to redirect to the proper URL and your ref code, and I would basically like to know pick your experience/knowledge to help me find out the best ways of marketing this without having my own website to sell the information. How effective, typically, is this method? Would text links be the way forward? Does anyone have experience of this working for them? Any information would be great, as I am currently stuck in a dilemma whether I want to commit my money or not.

Please remember there is absolutely no page, just a simple redirect to any page in their site.

For added value to you answers, the company helps people save money on their utility bills.

    Thanks!

This is referred to as affiliate marketing. A lot of companies do this so they can sell more of their product. A lot of people make a lot of money at it, but it isn't easy.

Thanks for your answer. I do know a bit about affiliate marketing on the web, I've been doing it for a few years now. However, for this particular project I am relying on the company to sell themselves to the customer, rather than me using a landing page or similar to sell it. Im eager to find out how successful I could be with some purchased text-links and some good marketing away from having an actual site of my own. I have a network of sites which I could link from to kick start things, but as I said.. not having a landing page makes me slightly anxious :D
