Therapy is COOL. If you can afford it... most universities offer therapy for free (well you paid it in your fees) wouldn't you be curious to check it out Off topic but: I love it so much I want to be one! Working on that major
I have considered it a few years ago as well, and then I met some really messed up people in Cali whose monthly shrink bill is high enough to feed 6 families in Costa Rica for a year. One of them once gave me an insight into his issues, and once I heard about how messed up his family is, I realized I would prolly have to off myself if I had to listen to stuff like that all day. Psychiatrists are NOT overpaid like many people say. Some are, the ones who are not good. But hat off to those who do a good job and really care. - Mike
Yeah, being a therapist pays.. around 70 - 80k here? Well... its sad how only the rich can afford these treatments while the less fortunate who really need the help can't at all.. the goverment should cover it why isn't it under healthcare? Mental health is just as important. But... I know there are counselors which psych majors that work as social workers, counselors in shelters etc, that are less costly (well they also have less knowledge in the field without a phD) but kudos to them for helping. Volunteering is also a big thing, wish there were more therapists out there who would volunteer their time.. (I'm sure there are some.. ) I know I would if I could
I live in NYC, therapist average between $150 to $750 an hour. On the flip side, there are also many free options as well.
The states always pay more than Canada... free options may not be as effective if they just have a major in psychology. Well.. doctors get paid as much but they are covered by the goverment (well atleast here)
