See if I get this adsense thing right..

Ok, I'm under the assumption that all adsense ads are really adwords content ads showing on my site, correct? And.. since adwords advertiseres can now bid as low as .01 on a content ad, my revenue can be much lower now than in the past? (before they allowed lower content bids) OK, if I add the adsense seach box to my site, and someone uses it and clicks on one of the ads in the results, will I now get paid the "search" rate instead of the "content" rate? If this is true, then it would be a good idea to add it to my site, correct? Onr more question, do the other advertising systems allow content ads to be bid lower that search ads? (MSN and Yahoo, for instance.

Thanks, looking forward to a response.

I believe your assumptions are correct, in fact I was going to start a similar thread.

I'm guessing that Adsense publishers will now see reduced revenue because everyone knows that AdWords for content generally produces fewer qualified clicks. Does anyone agree/disagree with the prediction that people will now start bidding much lower for content clicks?

You can look at it one of two ways -

    1) All/most Adwords publishers will reduce their max CPC in the content network. I did.

    Bad for publishers.

    2) Being able to bid lower for the content network will cause people to open campaigns that were previoulsy search only...therefore increasing the number of ads available in the content network and generally pumping more $ into the content network as a whole.

    Good for publishers.

Google's search box pays very, very poorly compared to content ads in my experience.

I stripped all of my Adwords Campaign ads out of content network and made them all entirely search-only. I replaced them with a single campaign dealing only with content in order to get a better handle and more control over the content generated ads. As for paying 0.01 per ad ... never gonna happen in any type of competitve market area.

Advertisers can set their bids to 0.01$, but the issue is they won't receive any impressions because of higher bids. It was also possible until now to set up different campaigns for search and content so I don't see the new feature would affect things too much.
