You might do it one day? You make it sound like something hard to do. There
are 6 plus types of reports you can do and each of those you can set up a template to run on autopilot. Your results emailed to you while you drink you morning java. The report page will save 15 reports at a time. And these reports can be exported into other formats such as .txt, .cvs. html. The reports showed me the same thing it did Rob. My ads where being sent to myspace.com also. One day all clicks came from myspace.com. 50 clicks and not one of any value.

Just read through the 14 pages straight and went to the blog post also. The thread is much better presented due to the responses you are making to the questions, I think you will find it difficult to maintain the free flow momentum that you have done on the thread.

Congratulations by the way! Awesome effort and Kudos for duplicating your movements here.

    Have you attempted split-testing yet?
I am thinking of a more killer headline directed to the individual visitor. With graphics or arrows pointing to the box.
Sub headings, etc. The full works if you know what I mean by suggestions made by internet marketeers. Split testing tools are easily come by and they can rotate the ratio of your different landing pages 50/50 over a time period. It could make a substantial different.

What about duplicating the box at the bottom, so you have two, or even one at the bottom once you have a more compelling article, possibly even more aggressive.
"Getting Your First Home Mortgage" could be changed to "Are you confused about about your first home mortgage?", etc.

Also I am using firefox 2.0.5 and then after making a selection on on the box there is no submit button or any radio button of any kind. Is this due to the browser used?

If you using analytics tool would tell you about the browsers used. Have you tested the page on all know browsers? Again there services that can do that for you, in fact i would recommend a clicksmap/heatmap service to assess where the users are clicking and get the analytics for that, again these are free services. My own service for adsense tracking via heatmap will not be released for another month, but for now try crazyegg.com or clickdensity.com or metrics.performancing.com

You made that with only three clicks from Adwords? Were you getting any organic traffic in there too?

Normally your ads start showing in just a few minutes, then a google person will review it in a few days, maybe weeks, maybe never. I really don't know.
I've only split tested my ad copy. Out of 5 or 6 ads, 3 of them performed poorly, and the other three performed about the same over time. So I keep three going.

I might try putting a graphic next to my affiliate box, and do some other standard ad copy techniques - using huge headlines in red, check marks, outlines, yellow box in shading, drop caps, testimonials, ps messages, signatures etc...

But I really don't want people to stop and read my entire page. I'm not selling information or a product. In a highly regulated industry like refinancing, less is more.

The form works fine for me in explorer and firefox. You may have a plugin or something in firefox interfering. I had one that messed with my browsing and had to uninstall it.

Basically, the upper left part of the page above the "fold" is the commonly accepted hot spot. This is where I put my affiliate form. Based on the links that are converting, which I track via sid codes, I would say that's valid. I use a different sid code for each link. So I know when a person clicks a banner, text link, or uses the form, and where on the page they clicked.

Haven't had to do much analyzing since the form was the obvious hot spot since 99% of the clicks and conversions were coming from it.

No organic traffic whatsoever. Lucky first day. But the campaign does continue to perform well. :)

    Hi Rob
You do just keep getting better. Well done so far.
I know last time we spoke you had your hands full and therefore didn't want to take on a new project but I still stand by my previous offer and would love to welcome you on board as a super affiliate. Debt Management can be just as lucrative .. ;)

Best of luck mate and keep posting I have started to recommend this thread to our current introducers ... It is by far the best way for them to learn... By someone else's mistakes.. Keep up the good work.

    Hi Rob,

I have a couple of questions if you don't mind:

    1. You said you used only one PLR article on your landing page, correct me if I misunderstood you. No sales pitch? I've always been under the impression that the landing page should basically be the sales pitch page. It must've been one heck of an article if it converted that much for you without even a sales pitch.

    2. Do you have links to other pages on the same site from the landing page?

Very good post. Very inspiring. :)

Here are the numbers for August for those of you still following this thread.

    Adwords Cost: $ 3,138.24
    Yahoo Cost: $ 1,049.86
    ----------------------------
    Total Cost: $ 4,118.10

    Affiliate Income: $ 9,950.00
    Adsense Income: $ 104.31
    ----------------------------
    Total Income: $ 10,054.31

    Net Income: $5,936.21

Pretty steller month for a little campaign I didn't know was going to do anything 3 months ago when I made $39. Couple of things I've learned along the way:

    1. Lending Tree will not accept you if you are new to commission junction. You will at least need to build up your epc on a financial related site. I'm still building my sister's account up, which is finally profitable, using lowermybills.com as an affiliate. They only pay 1/2 to 1/3 as much but do convert about the same.

    2. Adwords campaigns take a while to build up impressions. Despite very little changes to my campaigns, my first month in June yielded about 2 million impressions. This includes impressions from websites I've since removed via a competitive ad filter like myspace and pogoaddiction (see http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=3751514&postcount=150). My August impressions were 3.6 million, but the I feel the targeting and quality is much better now. This is also indicated by the fact that my cost per click has gone up from $1.76 to $2.20. You actually do pay for higher quality.

    3. Remove adsense from your landing page. Here are my conversions in July with adsense on the landing page (see http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=3910037&postcount=214)

Here are the click counts July 1 - July 25 when I had adsense on the page.
    Adwords: 1084 clicks
    Yahoo: 297 clicks

    Affiliate: 574 clicks (107 sales)
    Adsense: 172 clicks

    107/1381 = .077 (about 1 in 13)

Here are the August Numbers without adsense:

    Adwords: 1425 clicks
    Yahoo: 389 clicks
    -----------------
    Total Clicks: 1814

    Affiliate: 885 clicks (196 sales)

    196/1814 = 0.108 (about 1 in 9)

So I'm averaging about 3 - 4 more sales per 100 clicks without adsense.

    Interesting Note:
Let's look at how close my prediction came from post I made over a month ago http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=3910432&postcount=216

I predicted about 17 more sales if only 1/2 the people who were clicking on the adsense would now on my affiliate ad instead of adsense ....

    Based on 1381 clicks.

    July : 0.077 * 1381 = 107 Sales
    Aug: 0.1084 * 1381 = 149 sales
    --------------------------------
    Net Increase = 42 Sales

So it would appear that more than 1/2 of the people who were clicking on adsense - instead clicked on my affiliate after removing adsense!

I feel like this campaign is about to plateau. Not sure what to do at this point to improve earnings. I'm getting good position in adwords (3.1), my costs per day never approaches my daily budget limit, and I'm converting at 1 in 9. Any suggestions?

I'm a little tired, so if I made some mistake in the math above, let me know. It's my dad's birthday party today, so I have to get going, but tonight I'll come back and answer questions, if any.

Thanks again to all for the kind comments and suggestions. :)

No, I haven't really tried those niches yet. I'll look into it sometime.

    1. No sales pitch other than "Get quoted in Minutes" on a picture of a house. The article itself is on my home page, so you're free to take a look at it. It's nothing spectacular, but works.

    2. My landing page has the same navigation as any other page on the site, so a visitor can goto any other page on my site. Hence the $104 in adsense income despite removing adsense from the landing page only. All the pages are virtually identical.

    Oh! I almost forgot.

One other neat thing that happened this month:

A $609 credit from google, I assume from fraudulent clicks on my account. Thank you Google!

If I add that to this months earnings (or deduct from adwords cost) either way,

    Net Income : $6545

    :)
