    The site states:

What is a VAT Registration Number and do I need to provide one?

The VAT registration number is only required if you are trading as a company or for a company which is liable to pay VAT.

So if you are an individual trader, you don't have to pay VAT? Seems strange to me...

I'm in the UK and looking to sell a site for about £8-10k

Vat has nothing to do with sedo, if you turn over around £60k a year then you have to register for VAT with Customs & Excise in the UK and would get a VAT number, this applies to sole traders as well, if your not VAT registered then you can ignore that box. Check with your local tax office or accountant if you are in doubt.
