Sedo - Is this taboo or whats the feeling here?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by mnymkr, Jun 1, 2006.

I have several domains that I purchased on a whim or had good intentions with and I have taken a few very seriously and concentrate on them.

What should I do with these domains?

I read about Sedo but I respect the community so much here, if ya'll consider it taboo I don't want to use their services.

    Thanks

    Why would sedo be "taboo"?
I think you'll find that they have sold millions of dollars of domain names this year alone... See http://www.dnjournal.com
sedo, afternic, tdnam, etc. etc. etc.
All great places to sell domain names that you don't plan on developing.

    Sedo suuuuuuucks!!!!!!

It is full of idiots who make bids on your domains and then never reply. Sedo does nothing about it.

    Terrible...

Only used sedo for 1 domain and took it off there after. Im not big in to selling domains though.... only ever sold a handful as part of a business I owned.

Why not list them for appraisal here before you put them on Sedo?

I have a stack of domains on Sedo but I agree with Fryman -- people waste your time with bids they have no intention of honouring.

It is true that some bids don't pan out, but when they do, it more than makes up for the little bit of harm done by your wasted time from the false bids. Heck, you all probably still use eBay, right?

If you receive a fake bid at Ebay and report it they deal with it. BIG difference

Agree!... and parking domains there is also worthless.

I parked just one to test and the revenue is 3 times lower than anywhrere else.

    Namedrive.com

Much nicer looking park pages anyway than sedo IMO

I have to agree with that one.
Have some sites there, people bid on them, and nothing ever happens again.
Plus sedo wants a minimum of 50 bucks, so min bid on a domain is 60 bucks!
So who is making the big bucks when one domain is sold?
    Sedo!
So who is making the big bucks when thousands of domains are sold?
    Sedo!

One day, will get off my lazy butt and transfer those domains somewhere else.

I list some domain at sedo and park with namedrive.
Got a sedo offer on 3 letter .sc domain, and sedo would have taken $150 cut
because the name wasn't parked with them. Maybe I'd park with them if they
paid out more and had pleasant pages.
I'd only have gotten $15 and I paid $35 for the domain. Needless to say I didn't reply :).

Thanks guys. I too placed my domain on Sedo, I can't recommend them and took the domain off. Don't forget they take 10% off any sale and that combined with Paypal payments (and their %) means you won't be making alot of money from your domain/site.

I'd advertise the site on here or SP. Then use escrow.com (as recommended by Shawn) and follow it through there.

    Hello,

I must agree sedo isnt anygood, the fee's are too high and there is no revenue.
I have a few names getting 100+ views a day with zero earned revenue.

    Good luck

That's poor advert configuration caused by poor choice of keywords. Change the keywords and you will begin to generate some revenue, I should expect.

If You sell a domain that You held for 3 years with reg. fee of $15.00 it must go on almost any auction site for over $200.00 to break even with listing fee, appraising fee, selling commission, PayPal etc. fee, escrow, and who knows what else more. You want profit, too? Domain business is as the gold digging business: Only few diggers make money, while shovel sellers make it. There is need for a paradigm shift in this industry.

I agree man. I sold more domains from getting contacted directly by the buyer than through Sedo. They did nothing for me.
