Sedo Domain Brokerage - Worth It?

    Hello there,

I was just setting up a website and I need a domain name which is already registered by another person.

I quite desperately need it, however on "WhoIs" the registrant only provided his location and address; nothing else.

Now I have two options I guess,... either write him a letter to his address or do it through Sedo Domain Brokerage... will they have better chances?

I badly need the domain though..

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks...

Er, legally (I think, though I'm not a lawyer) email and phone have to be listed. You could try and send a letter, but I'd look for another (unregistered) domain. This is, of course, assuming the domain you are after is worth less than $1,000.

According to ICANN, all domain name registrars must enforce their customers to have valid whois information. That being said, most domain name registrars dont actually enforce this rule. First I would file an invalid whois complaint on the domain registrant with the current domain name registrar. Then I would use the contact form on the website (if there is one) and try to contact the domain owner that way.

I would hold off on Sedo as they dont have any tricks up their sleeve. They only have the whois information to work with.

if you need that domain that badly, then buy it, however it's strange that domain holder hasnt given necessary whois information to the registry

Hey Guys, thanks for all your help.

I found out however that the domain is 7 years old.
It's not parked, nor does is have any website linking to it...
It's not being used at all... However the Whois information is very vague.
The Domain got 3 visits this month, one of them me...

What are the chances of the owner selling it to me?

Depends if you can get in touch with the domain owner and how much you are willing to pay for the domain name. Those are the two main factors. How did you find out that it has 3 visits this month?

Alexa Traffic Details, but i mislooked. There is no traffic at all it seems.
Also, the Contact Info for the domain shown in alexa is something different then from whois.

The alexa one shows a phone number. Maybe i should give that person a ring..

    Thanks dndynamics for your input.
