Hey guys I am currently in the process of making a website about computer security and reviews on various security products. Just wondering but is computer security a relatively well paying niche (anything above 0.5 US per click is pretty good for me)? Anyone have websites in a similar niche and care to share their experience ?
You probably don't know this tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal it tells you approximatively how much adwords users should pay for this or that keyword, and in which position their ad would be placed if they paid say 0.5 a click. What you want to know is about how much they have to pay if they want their ad to be in 1-3 position because that correspond to your first adsense block in your html source, this should be the best located one in terms of CTR. take for instance "antivirus" for the US (don't forget to show the CPC and position columns in "Choose columns to be displayed") since adsense takes a good amount of what advertisers pay, when you put 0.5 expect maybe to get a minimum of 0.1 (20%) for you and be happy with that, but it's probably a bit more. so when you launch the calculation you see that antivirus and all sort of things get to the 1-3 position, so look for those keywords who don't get a good position, for instance : antivirus trial 4 - 6 buy antivirus 4 - 6 antivirus products 4 - 6 best antivirus 4 - 6 antivirus protection 4 - 6 antivirus software review 4 - 6 antivirus antispam 4 - 6 cheap antivirus 4 - 6 antivirus program 4 - 6 network antivirus 4-6 antivirus comparisons 4 - 6 business antivirus 4 - 6 antivirus ratings 4 - 6 antivirus programs 4 - 6 antivirus deals 7 - 10 <-- this one seems excellent free antivirus software 4 - 6 etc. so now you have several good ideas about what kind of content to do, you see that reviews, comparaisons, ratings, etc. are good. Also cheap, trials and deals, special offers, things like that are good. so now, simply increase the amount an advertiser would be willing to pay to get to the first position, put $1 which means you'll get a minimum of 0.2$ per click : now you see that there are only a few keywords who don't get to the first position : antivirus products 4 - 6 antivirus protection 4 - 6 cheap antivirus 4 - 6 antivirus program 4 - 6 business antivirus 4 - 6 antivirus programs 4 - 6 antivirus deals 4 - 6 so you have some winners here, now to finish the demonstration, increase to $1.5 and the only one still not in first position are: cheap antivirus 4 - 6 antivirus deals 4 - 6 those are the winners, but be aware that if advertisers are biding most on these keywords, it doesn't mean they are the most searched for, and so don't ignore the other in the first tries because content focusing on those keywords might get you more traffic and so more earnings. Try that with other keywords you target, like antispam, and such. maybe check with google trend if you hesitate between two keywords, but the best is HARD WORK and create 2 pages for both keywords, that's the only way you'll get more money in the end.
