I haven't tried it. So i want to know about your experiences with section targeting good ; better ; worst ? Did it work for you ?
I use it to get rid of problems by hiding "bad" keywords that are throwing off the ad results. For example, in a blog I find it useful to use section targeting to de-emphasize blog-specific words like "blog", "feed", "rss", etc. so that fewer bloging-specific ads show up. Section targeting was discussed a bit in today's AdSense webinar, although I didn't really take any special notes about it. (See this posting for my summary of the webinar.)
i tried but it didn't work. for posts that yields low CPM ads, i used teh weight=ignore tag but....google doesn't seem to pay attention.
Yes it seems to be big problems with phpBB communites because adsense display phpBB hosting ads all the time. But there must be some trick to avoid it as here on DP google_page_url is a static page so its a trick to get most relevant ads but i don't know how it could be done with phpBB communites. One thing is clear Adsense crawler has problems with dynamic pages to get most relevant ads.
I was curious about this, and disappointed to find out that it's a 'known' issue. I have a site at www.whonu.com, that has results pages that are all about dynamic content, and the ad relevancy is absolutely terrible!! Despite placing the targeted keyword(s) in the title, heading, links, etc., and using section targeting (seems to be worthless), most of the time, ads that appear are not even close to what they should be. It's very frustrating, because it's resulting in an overall CTR that's probably less than 10% what it could be (if not more). I'm sure that the overall perception of the site is not as good as it could be because of this issue, because non-relevant ads really turn people off, and makes for less than an optimal experience. Google crawls the site 4/5 times a day, so it's not a crawling issue. I just wish Google would allow you to specify the main keyword your targeting in the Adsense code. I think everyone would benefit. If any of you Adsense experts have any insight, I'd love to hear it. Best, Derek
