I just stumbled across a new (to me) directory, http://www.Searchturtle.com. The homepage has a PR6 and many interior pages have PR5. It costs $4.95 to submit with a 3 week wait, or an express submission for $19.95. I will submit my site, and let you know if it is worthwhile; I figure for 5 bucks you can't go wrong.
Interesting that I thought this sounded like an advertisement, and then realized when I did a whois that searchturtle is registered in NewYork, your location.. How IRONIC.
Hey schlottke, get a grip and tame your imagination. I have nothing to do with the directory. Just thought it might be of interest to others.
And if 1000 webmasters think that you can't go wrong. My test is: "would I use it?" The answer is normally no, and this site is no different. If they want to be valuable then they need to make it free X month listing until they get to a certain level and then charge for renewals and new submissions. Of the categories that I know about their sites are very poor. DMOZ has faults but it also has data and if I'm not searching on Google then it's my next port of call. Sarah
I don't know if it's just me but does anyone else just feel a bit paranoid about having to pay anything for a link on a directory? I know with the likes of the Yahoo directory you are going to receive guarenteed visitors for your money.
Go with the gut I say. If the site is appearing high on search terms, then you might get traffic. If it has good PR, then it might be worth it for that. I have a directory or two, don't charge for inclusion, has PR5 & Pr4 inner pages, but I throw away more than I put in.
Like any directory I subscribe to, it needs to yield 1st page in the serps for something (other than obtuse branding) - same goes for any site really. If I list in a category, it needs to do more than just pass a little (or a lot) of PR. Seems a lot of directories are charging nowadays without any realistic merits. Soon as you say, 'choose a keyphrase and show me a decent rank', they tend to vapourize. Oh well.. we all have our qualifiers
Have you found dmoz is able to do this? That seems like one hell of a request! How else could they offer value?
To be fair £2.95 shouldn't be grumbled at for a PR5 link. What I find alarming are the number of directories out there that charge a lot more money and have little in the way of PR. If you are submitting your website for traffic well your not going to see anything for your money, because I've not come across a directory yet that has generated me much traffic. Darren
I suppose the wait is designed so that you are pushed toward condiering the Express Submission at the higher cost.
Have you ever waited 2 years to get listed on DMOZ? I've spent more than £2.95 on effort asking for updates on the resource zone forum.
Submitting to directories are a major part of SEO for helping building one way BL popularity and improving "anchor text" positioning. You will always find some directories that are free and some that you ahve to pay to submit. All are important to submit to. Even if you are spending $49.95 for a directory like bluefind in long run can be a good investment IMO. IMO traffic generated from a directory is cake.. Most people submit to a directory so they improve their PR and anchor text ranking. I submitted my site to the Searchturtle.com $4.95 is a good investment for long term link.
