Have you guys heard about/used Searchmash? (www.searchmash.com) In their Terms of service it says that it is a website operated by Google inc. ???? Why would they do that? What is it for? Their search results are quite interesting and when you press "more web pages" (search results) the page simply scrolls down What do you think?
http://www.searchmash.com/about/features.html Looks to me like they are working on new ways of displaying/ordering information without completely messing with Google.com... I would bet the more popular features will make it there someday. Reordering results sounds like a social networking experiment...
SearchMash has been online for some days since early October 2006. It is operated by Google. An experimental search engine, maybe. * No ads — SearchMash is a ads free search engine. * Numeric search result — results has numeric rank. * Images result — three images result will be displayed next to your web results, similar to Amazon.comj’s A9. * Ajax powered — clicking “more web pages†link will load further results on the same page using Ajax script. No more page reload. * URL menu — click on the green URL will open a option menu for viewing the URL or refining Source: http://newsiness.com/
yep yep, it's Google trying out new interfaces of a search engine rather than new relevant results. And Google are trying to keep it separate from them so they can test un-biasedly
I like the More Results feature, but that's about it. www[dot]davidnaylor.co.uk/archives/2006/10/06/googles-worst-ever-product/ - David Naylor made a post about how he hates it
Actually, if you use the digitalpoint keyword tracker, and wondered why the Google API keyword positions differ from the google.com results, check it out on searchmash. I've noticed quite a few times that my keyword positions on searchmash are almost identical to the API positions. Is search mash avoiding some particular filter somewhere that tends to make the google.com results always differ from the API?
Thats right. I don't like there interface on it so far. The scroll down results is kinda like Windows Live and isn't bad.
It's totally useless to me. Big deal, a new interface with some web 2.0 trendy javascript. Their javascript code is a mess, but that's only to deter lazy people from ripping it. It only returns 100 results as far as I can tell. It's just a technical demo as far as I'm concerned. Not very useful imo. Surch.com - now there's an experiment done right! Searchmash honestly doesn't add anything to the search engine front.
You're right, I haven't. I just used it a little bit but I thought it was pretty cool. Thanks for the heads up. I stand corrected!
