    Yesterday I was doing some analytics, and saw one of my clients site had over 2,000 people find his site in one month simply by searching for the company by name.

    This last month his company name was searched for on Google by using 274 DIFFERENT methods. My client asked to keep name confidential, but to better explain think of all the different ways people search for Digital Point. I can quickly think of a few, digital point, DP, and digitalpoint. With the list below you can come up with hundreds of different ways though, and this is what people do.

    Different Ways Visitors Searched for the Company Name

    * By Actual name
    * Partial name
    * Words in name in mixed up order
    * Replaced spelled out numbers with integers
    * Included city with name
    * Partial name with city
    * Partial name with city and state
    * With an S at the end of the name
    * With and without the Inc. title
    * With Inc. spelled completely out, as in: company name incorporated
    * With the word “company” after their name
    * With spelling errors
    * Replaced certain parts of name with synonyms
    * By domain name with and without www
    * By domain name with and without the .com
    * By domain name with all items listed here as optional ways
    * By domain name with a space between every character – Strange, but occurred more than 10 times.
    * As one long word – My clients site has three words in its name.
    * With the + character between each word
    * By same name, but different city than their location

    lol! that was funny.

    you are right about it. different people have different search patterns and some search real obscure terms to land on a site. i get decent amount of search engine traffic where people search for my sitename or domain to visit my site.

    Thats kind of interesting. How different words can mean the same thing. On the same topic google still doesnt have synonmym search. If you search for lemonade, then it doesnt provide results for 'lemon water' 'lemon juice' or 'nimboo pani' even though they are all meaning one and the same thing.

    I thought the acronym comment was interesting and perhaps related to the company not using an acronym to refer to themselves.

    I have a client with a 5 word name and their initials (it's not even an acronym) is used extensively. Their initials is their #1 search phrase according to analytics, well ahead of any other.
