Does any know how many searches there are per month of a phrase X as a function of the number of times phrase X is listed on inventory.overture.com i.e. if a term gets 10,000 searchs a month on inventory.overture.com any idea how many that phrase may get on google? Cheers Notting
It varies heavily. Use keyworddiscovery.com for a LOT more accurate info. Usually it is 10 times but sometimes it is over 100 times. Some phrases get no traffic at MSN while at google get 100's a day.
Visio has some accurate input. There really is no set ratio that one can rely on. It is best to combine your research using a number of sources to come up with a more accurate number.
Agree with visio. Some people say you must multiple overtures number by 8 to get an idea of Googles search traffic...
I think even overture data is highly unacceptable in majority cases. You need to experiment with Google adwords.
In addition to the AdWords traffic estimator I have also use Google Trends to quickly verify the traffic figures that overture gives. You will need to find a keyword to normalize the graph. I pick a keyword for one of my sites that I know is getting traffic from Google and compare it to the term that I am researching. Now this method is more quantitative, but it is a good way to quickly weed out low searched terms.
i think that wordtracker could really helps you, gives really nice info about keywords and all your needs
Dont know about how much to multiple for Google, but I usually found that overture searches shows much more searches than it usually is. I am almost certain that some phrases dont have Google searches in number overture shows for Yahoo searches. Overture is good if you need something to see what searches arebiggest in some niches and so, but its definitelly not great source to know some reliable view on numbers.
yahoo = overture yahoo = 20% market share google = 60% market share overture volume x3 = rough estimate of google volume From my experiance, its fairly accurate judging from my yahoo/google serps and clicks.
that's about right. google about 58 percent yahoo about 26 percent msn is the rest bruceclay.com's tool takes the overture tool and breaks down what overture gets, uses these percentages and applies as a daily total. pretty darn accurate IMHO.
Overture, for me at least, has ALWAYS been WAY off. For example I am #1 on MSN and Yahoo for a keyword that Wordtracker says is 90 per day, overture says about 54 per day. I have received 3, yes 3 clicks for all of November, and I received 5 for the entire month of October. So for a keyword that has a conservative rough estimate of 72 per day and 2160 per month I received 5 clicks last month. For everyone out there that doesn't want to do the math thats one quarter of one percent of Overtures estimated numbers. Remember I am #1 for that keyword. Here's another kicker for a keyword that overture says receives over 45,000 searches per month I received 7, yup again that's only 7 searches for the entire month of october and again I am #1 for that keyword as well. Needless to say Im a little depressed
keep in mind it also depends on what your site is about. People searching for terms like "seo" "c++ programming" and "download php" are unlikely to be using msn or yahoo. But people for stuff like "free ringtones" "paris hilton and "myspace layouts" are more likely to use msn and yahoo
My site is in Consumer finance, but I don't think that, assuming of your assumption, that smarter or more educated people search Google. Frankly Google's SERP are horrendous. Everything, and scarily enough I really mean everything, I have ever searched for gives me, frankly, crap. Sites that rank for keywords they have NO reason ranking on. For example local real estate searches that return results about mining in the area or "local" realtor and it comes back with results from some blog that SOMEWHERE on the page they mention "local" but in a blog post from two weeks ago they mention realtor, and Google thinks its relevant...
I had a mortgage site ranked #1 on msn and only got 100 hits a day and 1/2 of those where from outside the us, at the same time i had another site just like it ranked #23 for the same term and recieved 400-500 hits a day all from the united states. I know other people have had the same results with finance sites and msn but I also know of a few who have had really good results. I guess it just depends on what financial terms your going after.
My sites are all mortgage, but my concern is more from Yahoo than MSN. Though I rank #1 on both. On that same keyword I have a site #5 on Google and received 15 clicks... go figure.
