Search function tutorial

Hey i wanted to add a search function to my site, i found this normal tutorial that looks alright. I have no experience in php what do i do to the php code i understand the html but i am lost after, do i need to create a mysql databse?

yes the above tutorial is a search function for mysql database entires.. if you explain properly what you want to search.. maybe we can better understand the problem.. please tell us what kinda search function you want, a database search ??
