Why would people search for the word "search engine" if he already using it?

    Wow, that's really unique search!
Never occurred to me anytime before and yeah i am pretty surprised too that dogpile ranks first.
    Dunno what's the googly strategy!

higher ranking for "search engine" is not important to google because google is already the search engine you use.

    jesus!

im not saying people are going to search for "search engine" im looking at it from an seo point of view, its interesting how low google ranks for this search term, cant quite understand why dogpile is top.
Try and think "out of the box" here not just black and white

I suspect that google is comparatively rarely referred to as a 'search engine' in anchor texts - it's just called 'google' - whereas dogpile and altavista do because people feel the need to explain what they are - just a guess.

yeh i agree, google only really gets spoken about in terms of webmasters and google as a company where as dogpile, altavista etc.. are known as "search engines"

Google is a household name which is known to all internet users so I don't
think it's that important for them to rank well for the term search engine.
