you should be targeting one or 2 primary keywords for your main domain. single post entries would be targeting supplemental long tail keywords. since a blog would have lot of posts over the course of time, it is virtually impossible to target a specific term for each post and get every single post ranked high. however, if your main site is ranked well, that wil pass some authority and link juice to your single posts which will help. when writing a single post, focus on a keywords and include that keyword in your post title which is very importnat.

another tip: you havn't changed your permalink structure to custom permalink, then you should do that. go to your admin panel and to permalink edit page and change to custom permalink. add the following code in the white box %postname% Code (markup): it will include your title on the URL which is a good SEO practice
