Search Engine Submissions

I have an established website. It's been up for almost 3 years and is a PR3. Is it still necessary to submit my site to SEs? I get emails about SE submissions all the time offering me monthly services. I always discard these, but I'm wondering if this could help my site in anyway, even now.

The purpose of submission to SE's (and with that I presume web directories) is to gain backlinks, i have seen some to none traffic from directories (excluding some web directories).

You can find even here on DP guys that can submit your site to several hundreds of directories for a small fee.

How much content have you uploaded to the server since the time you initially submitted the site? Also, how did you submit the site to the search engines? Did you go to Google, Yahoo and MSN directly and use their tools, or did you use a third party to do so?

I believe I used a third party. I do remember doing some manual submissions, but not many. I signed up with a few submission sites early on. I figured since I get traffic from google, yahoo and msn, there's no need to submit anymore. I figure that the other smaller engines will find me. I may be wrong and missing out on some traffic though. Do those submission places really work though? I also didn't want to get penalized for too many submissions. Is that more than once a month?

Not really. It's best to submit to the search engines directly as it's the only GUARANTEED way to tell them your site is out there (though getting backlinks from other sites works pretty damn well too), and only once your site has been finished.

If you overhaul your site or add a bunch of new content, then I'd resubmit the site to the search engines (directly by going to their sites), but obviously such "earth shaking" changes would be rare events (about as rare as the Yellowstone caldera blowing its top).

Instead of submitting to SEs, try submit to directories and build backlinks to already crawled by SEs. You can view if that backlinks is already crawled by using the cache:mysite.com..

    cheers...

As what i know SE submission is no longer advisable, as what they've said "let SEs find your site"

You can gain backlinks even without submtting to SE just continue building backlinks like submitting to directories and forum postings

Yes, no need to submit your site in SE instead submit it to directory and build more quality links.

Ive submitted my site to a couple of hundred directories already. Hopefully that is enough. It's a tedious process.
