I've always wondered about this. I can always find good quality info or any info i need, rather quickly using a search engine. But some of my friends can't find good info or the info they need as fast or sometimes, they won't find the info they need at all. So is the ability to find appropriate and good quality results using a search engine a skill? How good are your searching skills? I think it depends on if you know the right words to use in a search, when looking for something and such factors. And also if you can filter out the trash by merely looking at the SERP's and not having to visit each website to find out if it's a good source.
I have ranked myself as Good but if you compare me with others, I might be average. I mean, I can search appropriate results most of the time but others might be able to do it faster than me!
Your ability to search the targeted content in the web through search engines lies in the keyword selection and appropriate placement of words in the search box. I can say I am good at arriving the required contents, though not great
Search Engine skill is pretty important especially in this information age I would say that I am an above average searcher and is still mastering the techniques of filtering out irrelevant results.
Yeah, it's a skill alright...Sometimes it works by cracking your head to find the right and exact keywords or either way, try with different combination.
Ah, i forgot. Please also share any tips or strategies that you may have to improve search skills, speed and efficiency. Since we all search a lot, saves all of us a lot of time to waste on other things. Here is one i've found useful http://www.peachboys.com/search/index.html I would try using longer sentences or questions instead of words in searches and alternative words/synonyms to find useful results.
yes, and synonyms are very important too. If you cannot remember words with the same meaning or other keyphrases which would help you finding what you want, I would suggest simply using the google adwords keyword tool.
