Search Engine Script Problem on New Server

Discussion in 'Products & Tools' started by NosferatusCoffin, Oct 14, 2004.

This past week the host that hosts one of my client's sites moved the site to a new server. Now, I am getting 0 results when using the DP Search Engine Script. I made no changes to any of the files, they were just copied over to the new server by the host and I have not re-uploaded any of that directory's files.

I am not sure why this is, however the only thing I can think of off-hand is that since the new server has a different IP, that could be bolloxing something up.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Update: I just tried it with $site = ""; and still no results.

It shouldn't matter... what version of PHP are you running on the new server?

Hmmm... to be honest I have not tried it yet on PHP 5... although I can't think of any reason it would fail since it's pretty basic.

Probably the only thing I'll be able to do since it's not actually giving you any errors would be to find a PHP 5 setup somewhere that I can debug/test it on.

Just wondering if you have had a chance to test it on a PHP 5 server?

    Thanks.

Sorry to keep harping on this, but I really need an answer as to whether anyone has tested the Seach Engine Script on a PHP 5.x server. As I mentioned previously, it worked fine on my host's server when it was running PHP 4.x, but not since they upgraded to PHP 5.x.

I have been using phpDIG since the upgrade, but I did not really care for it's layout and lately there have been script vulnerabilities that have me made take it off the site. So, if anyone knows if this script works in a PHP 5.x server, I would be very appreciative.

I have not tested it on PHP5. Although, not sure why it wouldn't work. Are you getting any sort of specific error?

No. No errors. I just get no results, whether the $site variable is set to the site URL or is left empty.

I finally got around to installing PHP 5.0.3 on a test machine in order to test the search engine script. It works fine out of the box with PHP5 for me.

I just installed the search script on my website. The search appears to work except no matter what search term I insert I always get back the exact same results.

    Why would this be?

Works fine for me... try it with a stock set of PHP files (if you edited them).

monkey returns 1 result, hardware returns 2, etc.

I just figured it out. I didn't have the text field named q so it was messing up my search results. Oops!

Thank you for theis great script!

I checked with my host's Support and they said it was probably a firewall issue on the web server, as to why the script is returning no results. I think this is the issue as well, since I tried another script that uses the Google API and got the same result.

    Here is what Support said:

    "Hi,
I checked with our system administrators and they are telling me it is
probably a firewall issue. If you can please let us know to what ports and
hosts your scripts are connecting to we can enable it for you."

Since the script connects off-site to digitalpoint.com, I do have not that information. Would anyone here have that info?
