Search Engine RESUBMITTING??

I was reading some web creation related guide and came across an interesting comment:

(This guide seems to have been written in 2003, btw).

"Submitting Your Site To Search Engines

To effectively submit your website to the search engines, you need to use this tool once every four to five weeks.

Do not use this tool more frequently than every four weeks. Some search engines penalize businesses by removing or lowering the Web site placement on the search engine for those sites that they deem are submitted 'too often'.

Do not wait too long beyond five or six weeks to resubmit your website to the search engines. Search engines lower or drop the placement on Web sites that fail to resubmit in a reasonable time period."

Is this all true??? I must say I had no idea that you were supposed to resubmit your site...let alone... regularly. I know that nowadays people say you don't have to submit your site to search engines at all but, does this tactic of resubmitting still stand or work???

I'd really like to confirm this because this could have a big impact on traffic. I haven't resubmitted and my traffic has basically stabilized. It's well past 6 weeks since I first submitted my site...if I submit now, will I be penalized as the guide book says?

Search engine submission is deprecated. Things have moved on an awful lot since 2003, especially where SE's are concerned.

If you get links from other sites your site will be crawled automatically whenever the link is found.

AS stated... once your in then your in.

Try searching your url in the google SE and if you show up then you are in and being crawled.

To get more specific then click on the word CACHE next to your return and see exactly the last time Google spidered you.

    Google also says
" Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Goldâ„¢ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google."

I always submit new pages and it hasn't hurt me, despite what
some of the so-called experts say. These new pages are
usually indexed within a few days.

I also update the site's google sitemap every time I add
    content.

    Best regards

if you are indexed already then u don't need to re submit your site. If a site (which is already indexed by google) links to your site then your site will get indexed as well.

Absolutely true, couldn't be truer, you said the truth here,
can't be a lie, 'cause it's the truth.

HOWEVER, I find that when I submit a new page directly I
get indexed in 2-4 days, and when I just let nature take its
course I get indexed in 2-4 weeks.

Maybe I am just imagining things, but imagination is what I
    make my income off of.

    best regards

Search engine submission services or tools of course are going to tell you there is a need to use their tool or service all the time... so you pay for it.

You don't need to submit or resubmit, the best way is to get the search engine is by having them find links into your site from other site.

Now that is not entirely true. its ok to submit once or twice that wont harm you , but don't depend on submitting.
