About eight months back i had installed wordpress on my site which is now a year old. With about 10 to 15 initial posts I started getting about 5 to 10 visitors daily from search engine. Things improved as content built up, but afterwords I don't know whats gone wrong i started getting only 3 to 5 visitors daily from google. All pages still being indexed but they are given least importance against a query. Other observations show - as I submit each article to buzz and digg - if I use allintilte or just put my full post title in google it prefers the digg or buzz version also some times don't even show or show right on end of results. Does this mean that google have penalized my wordpress site? Also how can i communicate to google guys and ask about this? Deindexing of site is something other. It is done in case if you are using scrapped contents or your backlinks are coming from already banned sites. It can also be due to change of server or change of domain name. But getting lesser traffic is different. If your pages are not well built or have too many keywords stuffed in it then it might be the case that G is not showing your pages. Recently, G and other search engines are supporting real time search results which are mainly based on tweets your posts get. So try to get more tweets to your posts and see the traffic coming in.
Yea all of the reasons expertofexperts just listed are the most probable. If you fall under anything he just listed you will know what happened
If you are submitting the same articles on your site to the article directories, this is why. Google doesn't like duplicate content, I don't care what anyone else says. Also, don't use the same titles for your articles and bookmarks. You don't want them competing for your keyword.
@digisaurus You are right .Even if the content is same if it is written in changed format then also i will be effective.Google usually traverse page.
Thanks for few good tips! I am also using the wordpress tags, e.g. tag each post with very few keywords inside the post, now these tags then make the new pages, etc a post which mentions city of Islamabad or about Islamabad, I tag it with Islamabad, now this tag makes another page with same post, does it also falls under duplicate content. What I have heard is that tagging is actually good for the website. Also If there is some other reason, Google have penalized or something for some reason, how can I communicate or ask about that from Google People. 3 or 4 visitors from search engine really don't make sense when you have posts more than 140. Also if someone can review site for any mistakes to be fixed, it would be great. Thanks for all your feedback and information.
Okay I took a quick look at your blog and noticed that you categorize your posts under many different categories - instant duplicate content. Tags are okay since wordpress nofollow them by default, but I'd advise you to categorize your post in lesser categories or at least try to nofollow some least important categories. Other hints -Use More tag on your posts to avoid duplicating your posts on the home page. -Get All in one SEO plugin and nofollow your archives.
Few important tips for blogging - Put fresh and informative content (do not copy from any resources)...yes you can take ideas from other blogs but the content must be unique - write on recent updates (keep your eye on recent news and updates in your field and put words about it). this will help you to grab more visitors to your blog. use ethical link building techniques only, this will help you to improve your SERP and more pages will be indexed. Definitely going to use less categories for my posts, and gonna use the plugin you mentioned. - If i no follow the archives will that effect any potential web traffic to them? - Also how the more tags will avoid the duplication on homepage? <- Bit confused about this one. @jg_abad: Yes I will try to update content more frequently, mostly I come up with the unique posts, thanks.
