I don't know if I should start these websites. I found a really good keyword that has domains that arnt registered. I I want to get a good rank in google, I would have to compete against amazon, cnet, shopbot and all of those shopping websites. My question is:

If the keyword is (example): Brand Computer Product

    and my domain is brandcomputerproduct.com

will i have a decent ranking in 6 months if i get at least PR3

    I could also register:

    brandpcproduct.com
    brandipodproduct.com

what do you think? Is this project worth having a shot at?

Having the targeted keywords in your domain name is a big help, but it all depends on the competativeness of the phrase, the links you are able to get to your site, and to a lesser extent the on-page optimization of your site. For example, if you're going for HP Computer Product (highly competative) and your link building and on-page optimization are weak, you have no shot. But if you go for Acer Computer Product and you get good links and do good on-page optimization you have a shot.

The other thing you need to do before you get started is some keyword research to see how many searches "brand computer product" gets.

brandpcproduct.com seems soft, easy to write and remember than others. Just my thought!

PR is dead, you should talk about link popularity and consider the two alternative strategies :
    - domain contains keywords => easier SEO but limits future developments (branding issues)
    - domain with no specific keywords => requires more links containing the words you want to target (anchor text) but lets you enlarge you site's scope if you want.
If you want to build a long term business, the second seems better.

All up for the 3 sites it would be 100+ per month. Here is the PR for the first 4 results for one of the keyword phrases:

    1(brand) PR4
    2(cnet) PR4
    3(shopbot) PR3
    4(digitalhome)

Six months is really enough time to get ranking for your targeted keywords.
u have chosen good domain name for your targeted keywords.
for SEO u have to take care of following things
    - Starting u have to target those keywords which are not more competitive as there is chances to go in sand box
    - Built strong links for your site so u will get pr in next updates.
and do the usual seo for your site.

PM me if u need any help

    thanks

Be careful of using the brand name. It's obviously a trademark and some companies are stricter than others on this.

Domain wil be more powerful if you have the desired keyword. But also concentrate on marketing.Try to bring more backlinks.Use open source directory.

It is not neccessary to have the keyword in your domain, it wont really improve you ranking. All it will do is tell the search engines what your keyword is again, but you can easily fix that by setting up a subfolder /keyword/

I think most agree that a good URL containing keywords is a good start. I, however, think it is nothing but a start. Focus on correct HTML, optimize your site and try to market it, like others have said. Don't think that your work is done by simply selecting a good domain name.

The URL can help you get a better ranking but still you need to optimized your site well and work hard for it to get the results that you want.
