.I'm doing some smalltime freelance work for a local insurance company. I have a few questions about how SeO works with blogs. I know that blogs are good for search engine optimization. 1.Are blogs good for SeO solely because of the continually updated content? If not what other kind of benefits do they have? 2. When we add the blog to the website it is not going to be about insurance information, we think that would just bore the audience. So we are going to write about general information that we think the audience would enjoy. Would this be detrimental to the blog and search engine optimization because the content will not be targeted? Thank you very much in advance for the help. I really like this forum is a fantastic place for a beginner to learn about great things
Blog is good to help you keep your website with new updates and sometimes a few pages would rank up for some keywords and provide you with extra traffic.
Adding blogs to your website helps you to attract traffic also if you have a static website it helps to update your website .
Adding blogs to your website is a good way to make good traffic and PR for your site.Dont worry about the content of your blog
Blog is a website with targeted content specifically on a certain topic, category and trend. Blogs are prone to be updated often and since it gets fresh content often, search engine bots visit blogs often. Moreover if you have a blog, you have chances of getting listed on SERP, when a person searches with a phrase related to the blog post. I would suggest to have a company blog that talks about variety of topics where you expertize, so that people have options on your blog and they continue reading. Moreover try to write on topics that your website deals with too, so that you some use out of it too.

Timesheet,I am pretty much aware of the role of the blog and search engine optimization that you talked about in the first paragraph of your post. Thank you for confirming for me what I thought to be true. The problem I’m running into is what you talk about in the second paragraph. I know that in order to make the most of the blog you need to produce targeted content that your customers are interested in. My problem is that the blog is for a local independent insurance company. There are only so many insurance topics that you can talk about that would be engaging to your audience. We are thinking that our blog is going to contain non-insurance information. Just everyday useful information that our clients and customers might find interesting. My question is this. Since the blog will not have targeted information dealing with insurance will it still be useful for search engine optimization? Will the continual updates make up for the fact that the information is not targeted? Thanks, I really appreciate the help.
What I would suggest is that to have a category on your blog that deals with Insurance or whatever you work on and add up some good content on the topics available. Make sure you have the best title, that people would use to search. You can write more on other topics too, when you have not much on insurance. When you have a blog, the crawling time gap of your website will be reduced and moreover you can add some insurance related banners or links to the blog pages that has good visibility. Moreover a good blog would give your website self promotion.
Timesheet,That is a fantastic idea. I never thought of using tabs to basically break everything down into two categories.Thank you for the other advice as well. That was absolutely what I thought I was in need of.
