    Hey all,

    Just wondering the following:

Which search engine do you use? Why?
What features do you like in a search engine? i.e speed, reliability etc.
And anything else you can think of ;)

    Thanks.

I use Google for practically all my searches because I find that there results are usually quite accurate. The speed and reliableness of Google also seems good.

I think it would be good if you could search for particular file types (like for just PDF files). I also think that having a good image search is important.

    Hope this helps. :)

You can search for particular file types you just use the term

ext:pdf or whatever and then query for example

"ext:pfd ebay+selling" There's a list of all the file types google allows you to do this with.

The thing I love the most about google is that all the answers are really findable by google if you know how to search properly and all the different query options.

Yahoo does allow you to filter searches to a good degree. For filtering down to a specific file type,eg .txt, .pdf files etc, well Yahoo does this as well - check out http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/basics/basics-08.html for a basic ovierview. Do note that Yahoo's local search is curently better than anything Google has, http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/yp/yp-01.html provides a basic overview of this.

For those who have not seen Yahoo's shortcuts, check out http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/tips/tips-01.html to see what you are missing out on - this is probably what many people would be after doing a search.
