Hello, i ran across Search.com and i am wondering are they tapping into anyones api key or.. did they index the pages themselves? this just makes me curious.
It's meta data. Most likely API's, XML feeds, and SOAP calls where available. I doubt they do any screenscraping or crawling of their own. Looks like CNET owns it (I'm too tired to recall, too lazy to look it up). They are missing a huge opportunity with that asset. With all the Web 2.0 and mashups available, they could have one monster tool with a huge brand presence. Yet it just sits as a backburner project (from my perspective at least). They don't even have a toolbar. The do have desktop search, but they miss the boat and call it WebFerret. Who wants a ferret in their hard drive? Their SERPS are so so, seems dogpile does a better ranking of Meta results than they do. Their logo seems pre-bubblish. On the positive, they do offer a download search that appears to be unique from all the search engines. It could be a useful tool. I'll have to remember next time I go hunting for software.
I notice they use all of these other search engines, But how do they say hwo is rank 1 rank 2 rank 3 how do they filter all of this tho, Who are they using as this. Basicaly how are they sorting it all out.
Hi Jordan It is the same thing that I sent to you 2 days before on your email. I know you are researching this. But to me it seems XML feeds and API calls. No crawler of their own.
Mhm nick sorry ihavent been on yahoo am not on regular computer hehe How do they filter out the stuff for ranking tho?
Bing is a search engine that fine & organizes the answer you need so you can make faster & more informed decision...
Just an FYI on Search.com. I get a lot of good traffic that converts well from them. Even though they are just a meta search engine, they are a good one for most of my sites.
