Search 404 Problem

Rebuilt my site with drupal and clean urls along with pathauto etc

Old urls were something like http://www.site.com/?page=content/interviews/johnnybosch/johnnybosch however if someone clicks that page it redirects the the homepage. However if someone goes to http://www.animeomnitude.com/dog and it doesn't exist then it shows possible pages like it.

How do I get the first url to do the same?
    To explain further.

My problem is that because of the way my old link structure was, it just looks like it a weird function on the drupal site and so it doesn't consider it a request for a moved url.

Also is it correct for me to tell search 404 to use 301 redirects instead of 302 since all of my pages have new urls

    Anyone?
s it possible to get a redirect going like this.

Any page that is site.com/?page=* automatically goes to the closest related page ?

I'm losing pretty much all of my Google traffic for search terms other that 'site name'
