Script Software Copyright !

    If you developed a Script lets say "vbulletin" forum script . How to make that script copyrighted to my company or myself. so if anybody using my script without permission i can take legal action by law aganist it violating copright law.

    By creating it is copyrighted. You can register your copyright for easier protection since a registered copyright holds up better in court.

    Labrocca is correct, as soon as it has been made by you the copyright exists, however proving the creation date and author is why you may wish to do it officially, you can always add in your copyright into the script and put a copy of it recorded delivery to your solicitor for safe keeping.

    One issue you should be aware of is the copyright date (in case you don't register the copyright officially). Say you publish your script archive on your server on August 1. On August 2 someone downloads it, modifies the copyright info, sets the date back to July 1, then starts distributing it. Then it's only your word against theirs that you're the author/copyright holder, since it's almost impossible to prove when it was originally released.

    This should no longer be a problem if your script is stored with trusted 3rd parties (in this example, you could submit it to hotscripts on August 1), which can be subpoenad in case of a conflict. But this can be quite a hassle, so register it before ever publishing online.
