The programming forums, specially the PHP forum, are full with script requests. I think it would be way more organized if we had a separate section there for all script requests, mainly for following reasons: Asking for a script, and asking for help with an existing script are 2 different things and should be posted in 2 different sections. The topic starter would get better help this way, because people go to specific sections to realize specific tasks. If everything is mixed, they will have to read through threads that don't interest them. A lot of people are interested in pre-made scripts, and could just browse this forum for help and ideas. Maybe the Cold Fusion forum can be replaced with something like this, as it seems to be terribly inactive? Thoughts? EDIT: I see this has been suggested before. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=48759 But no concrete answer. Plus, I think the programming section is the best place for it. People who request now will go there first, and hopefully see this section and post there instead. And it's still more programming related than "selling or trading", in my eyes.
I doubt that. It would be like it's now in the other programming sections, just all in one to keep it organized.
Yeah it's hard to know if someone wants actual code or ideas to help with thier own, a lotta new programmers come to forums like this and don't want it done for them they just wanna learn the correct ( or a ) way to do it. I don't think there would be much mention of warez, there isn't now and there would be no reason for that to change.
Just try it and there would be. There are fo*l members and helpful members in the ratio 10:1 OS, I hardly guess someone would guess his/her script enough son and easily. Otherwise, thee are a lots of freelance sites for that.
I said that there wont be much interest shown. Genuine people who want to help by heart and fool people who copy paste other's work without a reference are in ratio 1:10 If someone needs custom coding, he needs to pay which is the way freelance sites work like SL, GAF etc.
The programming forums are already full of script requests. And they usually get replies to pre-made scripts. So with this request forum, it would be the same, just more organized. The interest is already there...
Its not really that busy in there for all this suggested structure, do you think? I think there's more need for organizing the junkyard of scripts on my computer. Oh you little lovely zip folders. AKKKK! Volunteers?
I don't believe this would work. Too much warez, and people sending illegal scripts via PM and messengers. ROb
Lol, what warez? There is nothing like that now, and I don't see why that would change... We've had a script requests forum on www.programmingtalk.com since forever, and we've NEVER had problems with warez or something related to it. http://www.programmingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=137
Ok, so i am probably wrong, but what you have to remember that digitalpoint is massive compared to other forums. More problems will happen on bigger forums than ones which are medium size. Rob
You're definitely right that on bigger forums more problems will happen than on "medium size" forums. However, while warez could get a problem, I think that, in the case of programmingtalk.com there were absolutely no problems, so at digitalpoint it won't become a huge problem I guess. Rather a minor problem. I could be wrong of course - but isn't that logic? On the other hand, making a script request section, you encourage copy-pasting whole blocks of code, which might be copyrighted. When I copy/paste (I do that sometimes too), however I mention the source, or I directly link to the website. Most people however will just copy/paste code ... that is the disadvantage of the script request section. I currently think there aren't too many script requests *yet*, so I think it currently isn't needed yet. That's my personal opinion of course ...
Introducing a 'Scripts Requests' forum wouldn't suddenly open a floodgate to masses of issues regarding warez/illegal scripts. People are already asking for scripts either in the general scripts forum or on the marketplace - this new forum would just be pulling everything together
