I am setting up a new directory, and I was wondering which script to use. From my research, I have found phpld to be one of the most popular ones. Is it worth it, or should I be looking in another direction?

Take a look at qlWebDS. It has many standard features without the need to install numerous mods.

The demo of the Pro version: qlWebDS Demo
Also check the features of all versions: qlWebDS Features

The Pro version offers many yellow pages style directory features.

I would suggest you take a look at the various demos that most of the scripts have, and then decide which one meets your needs.

As a long time user of eSyndiCat, take a look at the demo.

Have you drawn your directory on paper yet? Consider how you want to set it up and what features you want to include.

Instead of just asking for general referrals (which won't really help you in the long run), you could then ask which script will meet your specific needs.

Consider a formal business plan before running a directory otherwise your trying to compete with millions of other directories.

Let me clarify. I am rebuilding an old directory that has several hundred categories and dozens of entries per category. Fairly standard setup, similar to dmoz in having the link and description on one line. I was thinking more about the stability, support, and ease of use of the different scripts.

What directory site you mentioned? is it web or article? If you need Article directory means, you can use AJ Article Directory Script, which as good as you expect.

Not a good choice for any serious webmaster. Fortunately, for the Industry and all Web Directories, Bid Directories are now dead.

I ended up going with phpld. They have great support and I am somewhat familiar with php.

So far I am very happy with it.

    Thanks for all your help.
