Dang I hate ebay, apart from the ridiculous fees and shit .... I tried my hand at domaining over there and though that I was doing fine .... Until today, I get in the shit because of dodgy buyers, I log into my account only to see reverses and fraudulent payments .... So not only have I lost a handful of domains, but now I am have to pay back money. i though eBay was the safer way to trade online .... So what can I do now ? I will see if I can get my domains back through Godaddy and other registras - will that work ? What about all my ebay fees I paid ? do I get them back ? Will Paypal cover any of this ? or am I just ripped off ? P1ssed off - big time.
I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in all likelihood you're screwed. I was scammed out of two domains here on the forum several months ago. GoDaddy wouldn't give me back the domains and PayPal wouldn't call off the dispute even after I had show them all kinds of proof that they were stolen (I called them both). Now the scammer has the $440 I was supposed to get and two GREAT domains. Death to scammers.
Paypal doesn't protect all transactions. Specially risky are transactions where nothing is physically delivered.
Resolution is this is to start recording all parts of a deal. Screenshots, and conversations. And, always work with verified buyers (chargebacks affect your PayPal reputation). Excessive chargebacks locks a PayPal account until they return the funds. Don't worry, PayPal might suck to you - but it's the best technology can provide without being biased.
There are most certainly some disadvantages to working with Paypal/Ebay, but you have to take the good with the bad. As a seller, you should be in good shape when people try to charge back for non-tangible goods. I would call Paypal and talk with someone, explaining your situation. They actually can do a lot to help, believe it or not.
I hate it when ppl say only deal with trusted, premium members etc. It's bloody eBay - someone wins and you have to give them the goods once they pay, I could hold onto the goods - sure - but it takes three days for a dodgy transaction to appear .... so frustrating. Godaddy have said they can't do nothing and to contact PayPal ....
I have lost 5 x PR4 ($200) I have lost 2 x PR3 - 9+ years Old - ($100) eBay fees and paypal related fees. eBay fees about $50. and then obviously the 7 domains .... I always thought that PayPal and eBay said "safer way to pay and trade online" ....
Never blame the payment processor. It's up to the seller to ensure the security of the deal and the reputation of the buyer. In all my years I have yet to be scammed for a domain and that's because I refuse to business with people that don't have a reputation. If no rep then I want escrow. I would rather lose a deal than lose money. There are many trading environments for domains where reputable buyers and sellers exist. If you get a bad vibe then don't sell. I have even requested on sales to wait 60 days for transfer provided I alter DNS for them immediately. Once you push the domain you are pretty much powerless. Good buyers understand and if you have a solid reputation they won't have a problem with securing the transaction.
I would never sell domains on eBay. You are never safe selling anything online nor on eBay or other eShop. The best thing to do is to meet the seller or buyer face to face, make a transaction and give the good. However, this does not apply to domains and other non-physical things. -.-
Mmmm what if the recipient of the domain has the same whois details (address, name, phone) as the buyers PayPal ? For instance two of the domains whois details are exactly the same as the PayPal users details ? So if i prove that the domain was sold on ebay and show them the new whois details - that are the same as the PayPal members details .... wont that prove that I have indeed completed the transaction ?
I would contact the new register, and ask them to suspend the domains until they can investigate your claims, at least they would not be able to use them, resale, or move them until the matter is resolved. show the register your ebay page on where you sold them, and chargeback emails from paypal...any resonable register should do the right thing, but do not get mean and nasty about it, or you will never see them again for sure. and before you push domains through to the other party, at least email them for confirmation, and match the email to their paypal email, maybe even call them also.
These cases are just horrible. Anyway, I am still looking for ebay alternative (account suspended). If I were to sell high-priced domains, you should use escrow. Or list items as best offer/buy it now, so that you can reject offers from low-rating buyers.
I bought you 20$ deal and it went though, but I got no password or anything to be able to download the adult video databases. What do I do now???
Are they in the same country as you? If so you'll find it incredibily easy to bring them to the small claims court - you can most always do the paper work yourself.
It's hard to tell - especially if they used stolen credit cards / hacked paypal accounts. Yup - luckily the whois info for the majority of the domains matches the members PayPal details - so I just forwarded the whois links and proof of the domain sales on ebay .... so if they match - it should prove that I have pushed the domains into the persons account. It's funny - I have been scammed less (close to zero times) here at DP .... than what I got scammed on eBay .... and doesn't ebay claim "the safer and easier way to shop online".
