Scraper Sites?

I have been grappling with the reason for the existence of this certain type of page for a while now.

And I'm not trying to rat anyone out or anything like that - this is just the most efficient way that I could ask my question:

So I have a bunch of sites like these linking to my site.
    http://www.quiltsinfo.info/quilt-fabric-sales.php

As near as I can tell, these are scraper sites, that are more than likely accumulating traffic by using the minumum adsense clicks - a proven business model. My question is - what is the benefit of putting real html links on the site. Yes they're way below the fold where no one will ever see them, but why us links and not some generic optimized content?

And moreover, how do these sites get indexed? Google found one page when I did a "site:"

I'm really looking for an explanation as to why these pages exist.

    Thanks.

I'm guessing it's just one more thing in addition to faux content and keyword stuffing to make the site look worthwhile to search engines. Maybe some kind of inversion of the inbound links theory.

linking to sites that are related or are an authority on the particular subject. Search around for "authority linking" you will probably find your answer there

Would I refuse a free backlink?

Not unless its on a link farm, and these don't appear to be link farms.

What I am wondering is if there is a way to create a holy host of pages like this that will link to my own website.

I want 100 of my own domains hosted on servers with 100 different C-block addresses. I'm thinking this may be a way to do it.

    Here's a little breakdown:

    - That site is a blog
    - Automation for posting
    - Pulls SERPs from either G/Y!/MSN for "Quilt Fabric Sales" and posts with thumbnail of site ...why pull SERPs for that keyword...because you'll know that G/Y!/MSN will have those keywords on the SERPs page
    - Takes 2 min. to generate this site

    Wham...Bam...Thank you Ma'am.

I think one of my 'many' mistakes this past year was thinking 'hey-someone-wants-a-link!' I now get several requests for non-related sites (mainly gambling) per week. Needless to say I have now deleted all the seriously non-relevant outbound links I can find but still have to hunt out loads more... G-hates-me!!:p for starting my learning curve 'somewhere-other-than-as-they-like-it!' hmmm
