The mob saga "The Departed" won the best-picture Academy Award on Sunday, a triumph for a homegrown American film in an evening that featured the most internationally diverse field of nominees in the history of Hollywood's highest honors. Martin Scorsese finally won the best-director Academy Award that had eluded him throughout his illustrious career, taking the prize for his mob epic "The Departed" after five previous losses. Forest Whitaker earned the best-actor Oscar for "The Last King of Scotland," in which the soft-spoken actor played an uncharacteristically flamboyant role as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. Helen Mirren reigned, winning best actress for her portrayal in "The Queen" of British monarch Elizabeth II facing ebbing loyalty after the death of Princess Diana. http://oscars.movies.yahoo.com/news/associatedpress/20070225/1198.html Great night for Martin Scorsese who at last wins that elusive Oscar Forest Whitaker takes best actor Helen Mirren best actress

The Departed "a triumph for a homegrown American film"? It's a remake of Infernal Affairs for God's sake. Nice to see Forest get a gonk, though.
funny is everyone i know in Hong Kong (where Infernal Affairs made) think the departed suck I didn't watch the departed yet. As a matter of fact. little miss sunshine is the only film i watched
Just saw the TV re-run Marty Scorsese was ecstatic Jack Nicholson too with new 'hairstyle' he looked great
Very true. Both are good movies but I prefered the original. It was good to finally see Scorcese get his oscar though.
